Online therapy across California
I'm Janice Hoscan, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA LMFT #139263) based in Santa Rosa, and I see clients by secure video anywhere in California. Whether reaching an office is hard, you live somewhere without the right therapist nearby, or you simply prefer meeting from home, telehealth makes good therapy easier to keep going. I offer couples, grief, and individual work online, and every new client is welcome to start with a free consultation.

Therapy by video, anywhere in California
Because I'm licensed in California, I can work with anyone in the state by telehealth, not just Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, but the Bay Area and beyond. Online sessions look much like in-person ones: a regular time, a private space on your end, and the same steady, collaborative work. For many people they're also easier to sustain, which is often what makes the difference between starting therapy and actually staying with it.
What I offer online
Most of my work translates well to video. That includes couples therapy (where meeting from home can make it far easier for two busy schedules to land in the same session), grief and bereavement counseling, and individual therapy for anxiety, depression, life transitions, and loss. If you're not sure whether your situation suits online work, we can talk it through in the consultation.
Secure, private, and simple to join
Sessions run over a secure, HIPAA-covered video platform. You don't need special equipment (a phone or computer with a camera is enough), and it helps to join from a quiet space where you feel private, ideally with headphones. For most people and most concerns, research finds telehealth therapy about as effective as meeting in an office; where in-person work would serve you better, I'll say so.
Getting started
Online sessions are billed at the same rates as in-person ones; you can see the full schedule on my fees page. The simplest first step is a free consultation: we meet by video for a short, no-pressure conversation to see whether we're a good fit before booking a first session.
In person in Santa Rosa, too
If you'd rather meet face to face, my office is at 5755 Mountain Hawk Drive, Suite 206, in Santa Rosa, and I see clients in person from across Sonoma County. Many people mix the two, starting in person and switching to video when travel or schedules get in the way, or the reverse.

Common questions
- Do you offer a free consultation?
- Yes. Every new client is welcome to begin with a free consultation, a short, no-pressure conversation to see whether we're a good fit before booking a first session.
- Who can see you online?
- Anyone physically located in California during our sessions. As a California-licensed therapist I can work with clients anywhere in the state by telehealth, whether that's Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, the Bay Area, or far beyond it.
- What kinds of therapy do you offer online?
- The same work I do in person: couples therapy, grief and bereavement counseling, and individual therapy for anxiety, depression, life transitions, and loss. Most of it translates well to video.
- Is online therapy secure and private?
- Yes. Sessions run over a secure, HIPAA-covered video platform, and you join from wherever you feel private and undisturbed. It helps to have a quiet space and headphones, but you don't need any special equipment beyond a phone or computer with a camera.
- Is online therapy as effective as in person?
- For most people and most concerns, yes. Research finds telehealth therapy works about as well as meeting in an office. Some situations are better suited to in-person work, and if that's true for you we can talk about it during the consultation.
- How much does online therapy cost?
- Online sessions are billed at the same rates as in person. Individual therapy is $220 for 50 minutes, and couples sessions are $240 for 50 minutes or $360 for 75 minutes. A limited sliding scale is available for those who qualify, and longer sessions are prorated.
- Do you take insurance?
- I don't bill insurance directly. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.
