Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Hoscan Therapy (Janice Hoscan, LMFT) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit this website or reach out about services.
1. Introduction
Janice Hoscan, LMFT is committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This policy describes what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers this website only; therapy services themselves are governed by the confidential informed-consent and notice-of-privacy-practices documents you receive as a client.
2. Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you email, call, or send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, contact details, and whatever you choose to write.
- Usage data. Like most websites, our host and analytics record standard technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and referring links.
We do not collect protected health information through this website. Intake, scheduling, and any clinical information are handled inside the secure booking portal described in section 4, not on these pages.
3. Analytics and cookies
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID
G-1BGND9TXYV) to understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use the
site. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data such as your IP address and pages
viewed; we use this only to improve the site, never to identify you individually. You can opt
out with the
Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser; the
site works either way. See
Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles this data.
4. Booking and the SimplePractice portal
Appointment requests and intake are handled through SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant practice-management platform. When you book, the information you enter there is collected and protected under SimplePractice's own terms and privacy policy, and under the privacy practices of this practice, not under this website's policy. We receive only what you submit in order to schedule and provide care.
5. How we use your information
- Respond to your messages and schedule or provide therapy services.
- Communicate with you about appointments and important updates.
- Maintain, secure, and improve this website.
- Meet legal, professional, and ethical obligations.
6. How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that operate this site and our booking (such as Google Analytics and SimplePractice, above), and where required by law or to protect the safety of a client or others as permitted by California law and professional ethics.
7. Data security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; please avoid sending sensitive clinical details through email or the website contact form.
8. Your rights
You may ask to access, correct, or delete the personal information you have given us. To make a request, contact us using the details below. Rights over clinical records held within the practice are addressed in your client paperwork.
9. Children's privacy
This website and these services are intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version, with its effective date, will always be posted on this page.
